Top 10 Chocolate Peanut Butter Combos
I love the taste of peanut butter and chocolate in a candy bar and America has some of the best around. Below is a list of my top 10 chocolate peanut butter combos. Let me know if you agree.
10. Hershey’s Take 5
A candy bar that really packs a punch this combination of chocolate, caramel, peanuts and peanut butter is made all the better with the addition of pretzel pieces which lends it a nice salty crunch. Launched in December 2004 this product is also known as Max 5 in Canada with the ‘5’ in its name referring to the combination of the five different ingredients. The combination of flavours might be too much for some but overall most people will like it.
9. Reese’s Fast Break
Originally launched as a Fast Breakfast Snack this candy bar is a simple combination of peanut butter and nougat smothered in milk chocolate. Although not as popular as some of the other products in the Reese’s portfolio it does have the distinctly favourable advantage of being manufactured in a more conventional bar format.
8. Reese’s Pieces
Launched in 1978 and made famous globally by the film E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial in which the candy is used to lure ET our of the cupboard, these circular peanut butter filled candy shells are extremely moreish. Available in different sized and weighted packets, as well as cardboard boxes and cup shaped travel containers, this product is becoming an increasingly popular choice of wedding bomboniere.
7. Reese’s Crispy Crunchy Bar
Containing a rather ingenious mix of layered crispy peanut butter crunch in the center, a thin stripe of peanut butter and a liberal sprinkling of crushed peanuts all covered in smooth milk chocolate the Reese’s Crispy Crunchy Bar is an intriguing candy. Possessing a rather creamy taste, the combination of the crispy textured centre and the crunchy nuts is quite delightful, although a bit more of a chocolate coating wouldn’t go amiss.
6. Butterfinger Crisp
A huge improvement on the original Butterfinger candy bar, Butterfinger Crisps are a a mix of light and crispy wafers, Butterfinger peanut butter candy creme and crunchy candy bits covered with thick milk chocolate. The presence of the wafer really adds to the taste as it lessens the gluggy consistency of the Butterfinger bar, which makes the original a bit of a challenge to eat and leaves you not needing a can of Dr Pepper to wash away the flaky bits that get stuck in your teeth.
5. Peanut Butter M&M’s
Although similar in concept to Reese’s Pieces, Peanut Butter M&Ms are actually larger and contain a delicious mix of chocolate and peanut butter within the crispy candy shell. Highly addictive, the real appeal of Peanut Butter M&Ms is that as well as being available in a wider range of colours than their Reese’s cousin, it seems to me that there is more peanut butter inside the shell and that the taste sensation appears to resonate longer.
4. Reese’s Big Cups
By far and away the best of all the Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups products, Reese’s Big Cups are essentially the size of two ‘ordinary’ Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups placed on top of each other with a thicker coating of chocolate around the outside. A far more substantial and satisfying treat than Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups the presence of the extra chocolate offsets the peanut butter perfectly to create a taste sensation that is absolutely fabulous.
3. Dove Peanut Butter Bar
Creamy peanut butter meets Dove chocolate. What more do I need to add? A delicious twist on the original that you will find simply irresistible.
2. Twix Peanut Butter
A sensational twist on the popular original. The caramel has been replaced by peanut butter and the cookie biscuit is chocolate flavoured. The concept may take a second or two to get used to but the taste is amazing and once you have eaten a couple you’ll struggle to go back to a normal Twix again.
1. Reese’s Sticks
In my opinion Reese’s Sticks are the best product in Reese’s entire portfolio. Containing a delightful mix of peanut butter and wafer sticks generously topped with smooth milk chocolate the flavours merge perfectly to create a most satisfying treat. No one flavour overpowers the other, infact they compliment each other well so when you are eating the candy you get to enjoy a hybrid of wonderful tastes and long lasting flavour. I would highly recommend it.
