The Sweetest Way To Get Your Business Noticed!
As a marketeer the most important piece of advice I was ever given was that the key to generating sales was to get your business noticed by maximising the impact of your promotional campaigns.
Its sounds simple enough. Most of the best ideas in business are. But the real question that every business needs to address is how on earth do you make your promotional campaigns stand out in an overcrowded marketplace that is as competitive and innovative as ever?
Suddenly maximising the impact of your promotional campaigns is not as simple as it sounds. Is it?
Advertising of course is the traditional weapon of choice for many businesses. And Social Media like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and You Tube is becoming increasingly popular too.
But whereas these activities might be great for B2C businesses in the retail, fashion or FMCG sectors they tend to be largely overlooked by most B2B companies, especially those that are small or medium sized.
After all when was the last time you saw a television or radio advert for a company offering any kind of marketing service?
Or stumbled across a Facebook page for a business specialising in industrial solvents? No I can’t remember either. (Though for giving it a go I’d probably become a Friend of theirs!).
So what then is the answer for businesses like these to get your business noticed?
How can a small to medium sized B2B company convey their promotional messages in the most effective, impactful and most importantly cost effective way?
The answer I believe lies in direct marketing.
But only with a ‘showpiece’ that everyone will love.
Promotional chocolates are not a new thing. For decades millions of businesses across the world have used ‘showpieces’ to enhance the impact of their direct marketing efforts with varying degrees of success. Perhaps you have too?
But the point many of these businesses are missing is that the act of including a ‘showpiece’ with their direct marketing efforts is not a guarantee of success.
Infact choose the wrong ‘showpiece’ and it could actually have a negative effect on impact of the direct marketing.
How many times have you thrown away that branded pen, keyring, stubbie holder or mouse mat you didn’t really want? I certainly have done it more times than I can remember.
So what makes the use of chocolate in promotional activities so good?
Well for a start everyone has a sweet tooth, or at least a colleague with a sweet tooth. So the act of receiving a letter or a giveaway that has a nice little chocolate attached with it is sure to be well received. Also Promotional chocolate really does get your business NOTICED.
After all if you received 10 letters on your desk when the mail arrives which letter will grab your attention?
The 9 sheets of A4 that don’t have a promotional bag of chocolates attached to it or the one that does?
Instantly thus your letter (and therefore your companies promotional messages) jumps to the forefront of readers mind.
Isn’t that what marketing is all about?
Doing this will allow you to refer to yourself as ‘the company that gave you some chocolate’ when you do a follow up or keep-in-touch call.
Even if its 6-12 months down the line the promotional activity will never be forgotten.
For maximum impact do your research. Find out the names of all the people in the company or department you are targeting. Send them all a letter with little promo bag of chocolates.
I have done this many times to companies, who I now count as clients. All of whom informed me that the promotional activity got all their colleagues interested in finding out about my business.
Now isn’t that food for thought?
