Mars Bar Chocolate
Recently declared as Australia’s favourite chocolate bar, the Mars Bar Chocolate also holds a special place in the hearts of millions of Aussies.
Mars Bar Chocolate was launched in the UK in 1932. When Forrest Mars, who was the son of American candy maker Frank C. Mars, rented a factory in Slough. Managing a staff of twelve people he also oversaw the production of a new ‘couverture’ chocolate bar.
This was made up of nougat and also caramel, which was then covered in milk chocolate. It was modeled after the Milky Way Bar, which his father invented, and was also already popular in the USA.
Today it is sold in over 100 countries around the world and also enjoys a cult following among those who enjoy ‘deep frying them’. A practice that is believed to have originated in Stonehaven, Scotland in 1995. This involves coating them with batter and also deep frying them in oil or beef fat.
